Wednesday marked the worst day for the coronavirus infection to date, as claimed by the World Health Organization.
Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Wednesday that more than 100,000 new infections worldwide were confirmed. This is the highest number of confirmed cases in a single 24 hour period since the beginning of the outbreak last year.

Nearly two thirds of the infections originated in only four countries, one of which is the United States. The US has over 1.5 million cases and the continuously rising death toll is expected to reach 100,000 by the end of May.
Experts warn that reopening the US could lead to a new wave of infections and some communities are already seeing their healthcare systems buckling under the pressure.
