Are you a basketball fan, and if so, who is your favourite? This year, the World Basketball Championships will take place in China, beginning on August 31 and ending on September 15. In the group phase, 32 teams will be divided into eight groups of four teams each. Most teams are from Europe, 12 of them, followed by eight from Asia and Oceania, seven from both Americas, and five from Africa. Yet it seems as always, far ahead of all, the number one favourite is the United States.
Could you predict which is the biggest favourite after the United States? According to the odds of the relevant bookmakers after the United States, favourites are in order, Serbia, Spain, Greece, France, Canada, Australia, Lithuania, Argentina, Russia.
The fact is that in many teams will not play the best players from these countries, so US coach will not be able to count on LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry. Canada after the US has the most NBA players, 17 of them, maybe they are one of the favourites. Other than Canada, and with the exception of the US, none of the teams has that many NBA players. However, the sports public agree that, for example, Lithuania with several NBA players can, as always, shake up first favourites seriously during the knockout phase. Serbia as well as Lithuania have several NBA players, and the biggest help will come from Denver Nuggets multipurpose centre Nikola Jokic. Recall Serbia at the 2016 Olympics, led by Nikola Jokic reaching the finals with the US, and won silver.
Who do you think is the potential winner and who is your favourite?
