Ginger is a very common spice, comes from China, and has been in use for a very long time. It is named after the substance gingerol which it contains and which has very medicinal properties. Herb ginger, more specifically its root is that used in the diet, as fresh, dried, powdered, as juice or oil, and is added to cosmetics. It is almost imaginative for any ginger-free recipe.
Its healing properties help in digestion, to reduce nausea, in flu and colds. It also reduces muscle pain resulting from exercise. It may lower blood sugar, reduce menstrual pain, reduce cholesterol, improve brain function, reduce the risk of Parkinson's disease and cancer. There is mostly water in the fresh ginger, followed by carbohydrates and a small percentage of protein.
