Republicans wanted to prevent the stimulus check from going to prisoners and illegal migrants

Should inmates in federal or state prisons, as well as illegal migrants in America, receive a stimulus check?

Democrat senators are of the opinion that everyone should receive a stimulus check, while Republicans have filed an amendment that exempts this group of population from those who are entitled to a check.

It is a stimulus package of 1.9 billion dollars, which, in addition to Covid-19, includes other benefits that, as Republicans claim, have nothing to do with the pandemic. Namely, the Republicans believe that the money that would be allocated to prisoners and illegal migrants with this stimulation could be directed towards those, as Reps thinks, that help is most needed. They did not state who you are most in need of help. Democrat senators, on the other hand, rejected the amendment.

Republicans explained that their amendment would prevent the money from the stimulus from going to those who do not pay taxes. The senators from the ranks of the Republicans who submitted this amendment are Bill Cassidy (La.), Ted Cruz (Texas), and Tom Cotton (Ark.) In this way, they would save taxpayers about $ 2 billion, because, as Republican senators claim, taxpayers already pay for all their needs, while prisoners do not stimulate economy.

"Prisoners do not pay taxes. Taxpayers pay for their every need. Inmates cannot stimulate the economy. But, under this bill they receive stimulus checks. This is a perfect example of nontargeted, inappropriate, and total waste of spending. It's ridiculous that this is in the bill," Cassidy said in a statement.

Cruz similarly introduced an amendment that would have prevented immigrants living in the U.S. illegally from receiving checks.

"Joe Biden and the Democrats want to give illegal aliens $1,400 COVID relief checks. I proposed an amendment to prevent that from happening," Cruz said.

Is this the only time that taxpayer money has been "wasted"? Or is the division into these and those, ours and theirs, legal and illegal, visible again, this time in the Republican amendment? Giving someone money behind bars is a waste of money because that someone is in prison ??? or live illegally in America? Well, many (not all) who came in America, first were illegals and then became citizens. Couldn't an illegal migrant buy food for his family (for example) with this "wasted" money and not engage in crime. The division seems to be deeply imprinted.

Cruz explained, "Democrats just voted against my amendment that would have prevented American taxpayer dollars from being handed out to illegal aliens in the form of $1,400 stimulus checks."

But let's see further. In support of the insincerity of the story by Republicans that they want to prevent the outflow of money to "illegal aliens" is the claim of Senate Majority Whip Dick Durban (D-Ill.).

"The statement of the senator from Texas is just plain false. False! Let me be clear: Undocumented immigrants do not have Social Security numbers, and they do not qualify for stimulus relief checks," Durbin said.

Even if the financial aid goes to those who do not have Social Security or are behind bars, I think they should get the money, because the pandemic affects everyone. Both, respectable citizens and "illegal aliens," or prisoners.
